Two single rooms located on the ground floor of the two-story bldg., which have the same amenities, but with one double bed. There is a 1 BR, 1 bath fully furnished and equipped apartment located above the two single rooms, and is available for nightly or weekly rentals, the office which consist of the front desk, fully equipped kitchen and store room, an Adobe Walled courtyard, a Patio area with associated fully equipped kitchen and laundry room. There is a 19 space, full-hookup RV Park with newly renovated southwest style bathrooms, 7 spaces in the north park with 30/50 amp service, and 12 spaces in the west park with 30 amp service.
A room adjacent to the kitchen houses the radio station, "Basin Radio" broadcasting on 100.1 FM as well as streaming on the internet at as a service to the community for entertainment and announcements, and two "Cable Access" channels, broadcasting on the local cable network. Channel 98 features Big Bend promotional/informational videos and any other interest of the West Texas/Big Bend region.
Channel 6 is a "Power Point" presentation offering advertising for area businesses, as well as community announcements/notices.
Also included on the property is a 3 BR, 2 Bath all electric home, built in 1992. It features a living room with fireplace and built in bookshelves, dining room, spacious kitchen, and laundry room with built in Ironing Board. It is carpeted throughout, with linoleum flooring in the kitchen and laundry room. All appliances are included. In addition, it also features a stucco walled backyard for privacy.
The property also features a working windmill with an elevated tank used for landscaping; a pond with a redwood deck, garden with raised beds and a grapevine covered Arbor.
Rooms/cabins
Interior renovations consist of the use of T-111 siding for the walls, and vaulted beamed ceilings, new wiring and plumbing as necessary, ceiling fans, and new carpeting or tile. All mattresses and box-springs have recently been replaced. All have cable TV and individual heating and A/C. Decorations include new bed spreads, curtains, lighting, and wall pictures. Exteriors feature authentic adobe walls lining the driveway and cabin flower beds. All flowerbeds are weed clothed with soaker hose irrigation. Low voltage lighting is incorporated in the walls to designate parking spaces. Low voltage and down-turned lighting throughout meet, or exceed the McDonald Observatory lighting requirements for all surrounding counties, and has been recognized as such. All buildings are rain guttered.
Courtyard
The authentic Adobe Walled Courtyard takes center stage of the property. It features a lighted fountain, fire-pit, and covered fireplace, native landscaping, sprinkler system, and spectacular views. The courtyard is wired with low voltage lighting along the walkways and fountain, 110-volt lighting throughout. For entertainment, the courtyard is wired for stereo. There are a total of 8 speakers, two in each corner, to enjoy stereo sound at any location in the courtyard. In addition, when live music is being featured, the courtyard is wired to broadcast through the radio station located on the property.
RV Park
The RV Park consists of a total of 19 spaces. The north RV Park is located behind the two-story building. It has easier access with 7 wide spaces, full hookups, 30/50-amp service with cable TV, and easy exit. Perfect for large RVs and Travel Trailers The west RV Park has 12 spaces with full hookups, 30-amp service and cable TV. The RV bathrooms have been completely renovated in a southwest style with tile showers and countertops and built in heaters. The RV Park is listed with Woodalls, Trailer Life, and is now a member of the Good Sam Club.
Camping
Camping is available on the motel grounds. The camping area is located on the west side of the property. Highlighting this area is a landscaped garden with raised beds and grape arbor, cotton wood trees and a weeping willow next to a small pond, perfect for enjoying the desert solitude, and bird watching.
Utilities
All utilities are underground for safety, and reliability, as well as aesthetic purposes. In addition, the electrical, and cable TV are buried in conduit. Conduit is in place for future telephone connections in individual rooms. Mike Calvert, a licensed Master Electrician, owner of Calvert Electric of Fort Davis, installed all electrical upgrades and new wiring. The electrical is state of the art, and exceeds Brewster County code. It has been upgraded to 800 amps with a total capacity of 1000 amps. The neon "Motel" sign has been fully restored by Evan Voyles of Austin. The neon is the highest quality "Ruby Red" neon. All the lettering for the reader board is available. The sign and all exterior lighting whether low voltage or 110 is on timers and dimmer switches.
Former Laundry Room
The building the kitchen is located in was once the laundry room for the motel. It was later converted to a store- room, and more recently, renovated into a Health Inspected, fully equipped kitchen used for food preparation for a variety of functions and events.
Current laundry room
Built in the mid-1990s, it is located behind the two story building. It has 4 washing machines, 3 driers, storeroom and sink. All motel linens, towels and supplies are stored here.
Coin Operated Machines
There are currently 2 stacked Speed Queen washers/dryers for guest use.
