Cooper is a 6th generation Alabamian who grew up on the land his family settled before Alabama’s statehood in 1819. The land is nestled in the heart of the Black Belt in Perry County and has provided a livelihood for the family as a diverse farm using many conservation practices in Agriculture. Before leaving the farm for college at Auburn University he attended Marion Military Institute in Marion, AL and then finished his High School years at Darlington School in Rome, GA. In 2005 he came back to the family farm to work alongside his brother and father on the cattle and timber operation. In 2011 Cooper helped an absentee landowner develop and manage his property into one of the largest organic farms in the Southeast. Cooper is active in the Alabama Farmers Federation where he was the Vice Chairman on the Alabama State Young Farmers committee, a graduate of the 2018 ALFA leaders class and currently serves on the Perry County Farmers Federation board. He is the past President of the Perry County Cattleman’s and current board member. He is also a board member for the Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation and Main Street Alabama. He is an ambassador to the Black Belt region and leads tours covering the history, culture and positive projects throughout the region. Cooper lives on the family farm where he has a sheep, cattle, longleaf pine straw and agri-tourism business.
